Niklaus Gerber - Issue #62
6 months ago I started my research for the design manifesto. The goal was to craft a list of product design principles. There is so much knowledge out there and it is not easy to piece it together. This week the beta version of the manifesto for service and product design went live.
In the next months, my goal is to translate it to the 10 most commonly used languages. designmanifesto.org should become helpful guidelines for all the people who are new in product and service design. The principles also reflect strongly they way I work.
I have high hopes that this manifesto will help many people to craft excellent solutions for their clients. I would be very excited if you would join the movement and share it with your peers on twitter, facebook or whatever other social network you are on.
Wishing you a happy weekend and marvelous week.
How to Define Success
Does it mean being an expert in the horizontal skills and tools required to be a good designer (or any other field for that matter)? Does it mean to be a domain expert and be able to have every information at the fingertips pertaining to that domain? Does it mean having a good work-life balance? Does it mean being a people manager? Does it mean working on a star product that users crave for? Or, a combination of all of these attributes?

Thoughts on the Nintendo Switch User Interface
Nintendo’s newest console is in the golden era of its UI. The base features you would expect out of a game system are covered, but cruft has not yet been added to the experience. I’ve heard a lot of people say they long for more from the Switch’s UI, but I love the bare bones simplicity.
What do you get when you give a design tool a digital nervous system? Computers that improve our ability to think and imagine, and robotic systems that come up with (and build) radical new designs for bridges, cars, drones and much more – all by themselves. Take a tour of the Augmented Age with futurist Maurice Conti and preview a time when robots and humans will work side-by-side to accomplish things neither could do alone. One of the most interesting TED Talks I have seen in this year.
