Listen to learn and not to be polite.
Pauses and silence are essential. Embrace the silence.
Ask questions that help the speaker to go deeper or to expand what they are saying.
Quiet your agenda.
Repeat back what you heard.
Wait until someone is done talking before you respond.
A little bonus tip. If people are upset, you should ask them if they want to went or if they want advice.
